The warm weather is finally here to stay, and with it comes a host of things to consider when cleaning the office, including allergies, outdoor debris, and spaces unused since the snow came in. Because there are different things to think about when cleaning for the summer, there are also different areas to focus on that might have received less attention over the past few months. Here are our top five recommendations for summer office cleaning.
Air Vents
Since you probably haven’t run the air conditioning for over six months, turning it back on is a good reminder to get those vents cleaned. Both the register vents and the air returns should be vacuumed out and dusted off. Even if you have had heating running through the vents all winter, they are still a spot that often gets forgotten, and the changing seasons is a good time to give them a thorough cleaning.
Overhead Fans
Similar to the air vents, these likely haven’t run for several months, giving them a good chance to collect dust and allergens that will be blown around your office space when they are turned on. Luckily, these are a pretty easy clean. Before starting the fans up again for the season, ask your commercial cleaning company to make sure the fan blades are dusted and clean.
Floors
The beginning summer months call for spending time outdoors and even leaving doors and windows open to let a breeze and fresh air in. Unfortunately, the breeze also blows in all sorts of outdoor debris including dirt, grass clippings, leaves, and petals. Even with the door closed throughout the day, foot traffic is likely to track the debris in, especially as people spend more time outside throughout the day, such as on their lunch break. If you notice your floors getting especially dirty this season, ask your local janitorial service to pay extra attention to them, and even come in for additional cleanings in necessary. This is also a good time to make sure that the commercial custodian service you are using is well-versed in the best ways to clean and maintain the flooring in your office space.
Outdoor Spaces
Speaking of enjoying a lunch break outdoors, if your office has any kind of outdoor seating or patio space, now is the time to make sure that it is clean and ready for employees to use. You will want to make sure that any tables and patio furniture at the building are disinfected and sanitized after being in storage throughout the cold months. You will likely want to add cleaning this space to your office cleaning service’s list of spaces to maintain during their regular visits.
Windows
It’s a good idea to keep windows clean year-round, but it’s smart to give them a little extra attention during the summer months. Keeping them clean and streak/smudge-free is especially noticeable to both customers and employees during summer when the blinds are open and people are more likely to be enjoying the view/sunlight streaming in. Additionally, regularly wiping down windowsills, ledges, and blinds will help cut down on dust and allergens circling the office from open windows.
Paying special attention to these spaces at the beginning of the season, and then continuing to regularly maintain them throughout the summer will help keep your office clean and allergen-free, which will keep your employees and customers happy and feeling their best.
